The colonists worked throughout the year to put food on the table and their families from going hungry. The early American meals consisted of what they grew and what was in high quantity. The typical day of meals in colonial times consisted of three settings: breakfast, dinner, and supper. Breakfast usually took place at around nine or ten in the morning. The colonists had to quickly get their chores in the early morning so eating was the least of their concerns. I consisted of a beverage, which was decided on wealth. Beer, coffee, tea, and cider were popular choices. The entire meal was made up of breads, cold meats, and scrapple; a combination of meat and cornmeal. Next, dinner was usually eaten in early afternoon and was usually an hour break for the hard working farmers. It had two courses the first consisted of meats and the second was the fruit or baked goods. Lastly, supper was the light meal that was eaten late at night and usually consisted of leftovers.
